Notes

WinCALIS Author and UniEdit include conversion filters for most national and international coding standards and many corporate standards built into their File, Open and File, Save dialogs.

These conversion filters are editable and extensible by end-users.

The same filters are used with standalone conversion utilities at the DOS prompt. The advantage of using the DOS utilities is that they support DOS wildcards, so that many files can be converted in batch mode in a few seconds.

Our conversion system is fraught with the same semantic ambiguities which have often been noted in connection with file conversion. Nevertheless they perform adequately in converting the great majority of codes correctly. Users are able to use Unicode as an "interlingua" for converting between any two other coding systems.
