WinCALIS
The flagship product in the WinCALIS system is WinCALIS itself.
WinCALIS presents material to the student user in an interactive
environment, which gives the user the full freedom to view and
type anything he desires in the target language, in his native
language, or in a special-use font such as International Phonetic
Alphabet. The user interface for each language is geared especially
to the needs of the foreign learner, rather than merely the word-processing
model which native speakers are accustomed to. In addition to
its linguistic sophistication, WinCALIS provides full support
for all multimedia through Windows' Media Control Interface (MCI).
WinCALIS Author
This authoring program provides the courseware author with
the tools he needs to create educational materials, including
a full Unicode-compatible text editor. WinCALIS and WinCALIS Author
share a common language user interface. One special challenge
was to provide means for language input which courseware authors,
many of whom are native speakers, would find comfortable, while
at the same time accommodating the needs of foreign student users.
WinCALIS Multimedia Editor and UniEdit
The Multimedia Editor gives the author tools to mark media
clips for inclusion in lessons. UniEdit is a standalone Unicode
editor-- an MDI (multi-document interface) Unicode Notepad.
A Demonstration of Basic Features of the WinCALIS Authoring System
The next sequence of screens uses a WinCALIS "script" to present the system itself.
