Notes

A Unicode Browser in WinCALIS, WinCALIS Author, and UniEdit allows users to insert exotic characters in their text. But equally important, it allows them to get acquainted with the

concept of Unicode as they browse through the Unicode code space. For students, especially students of Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, another benefit is the opportunity to explore the characters they are learning in an ordered, systematic arrangement.

By pressing the Help button, users can see a chart of all Unicode character code regions. For the Han characters, another chart correlates the Kangxi Radical Chart with Unicodes, listing the first Unicode of each of the 214 Kangxi radicals.

One problem with browsing in the Unicode Browser in Windows 3.1 is the tendency to rapidly run out of GDI font resources. After paging through 10-20 pages, Windows can no longer display any new fonts and substitutes whatever ANSI font it can, often Times New Roman.
